1.
Again 03:06
When I tried to feel alone again, When I woke up next to my phone again, Is that light reflecting off my phone? Or is she finally trying to reach me? I fucked up and I told a lie. Can't just apologize and feel alright. Can't you tell me I'm a good person? And she'll tell me "I don't want to see you again." When I tried to feel alone again, When I woke up next to my phone again, Is that light reflecting off my phone? Or is she finally trying to reach me?
2.
Appear Amid 02:46
This is not my language, I can feel again the words in my mouth, though they are simple And though my love is far away she could appear amid the ruins of my day in love with me as though I had stayed No matter where I move or sleep I just keep having this dream Of her walking into and then out of a pyramid and coming into my bed in love with me as ever again and the sun did shine so bright my eyes opened surprised not to see you then.
3.
Sebastia 02:15
I'm walking past the citadel, Walking past the circus school, Walking past the Turkish baths, Walking past the city trash And I don't know I'm blue. I'm walking through Sebastia With your head in my hands, The shrine we pass there is no mans but stands; And I'm blue.
4.
Rachel Says 05:18
falling awake to the falling rain i couldn’t draw a straight line what is the dif- terence between wanting to stay asleep and not wanting to stay alive misery lies like the palace at the center of the city i don’t live there but i visit and it’s heavenly to receive self pity a plenty rachel says over the church bells “you have to be nicer to yourself” i don’t want to be selfish i just want to be self-less falling awake to the falling rain i couldn’t draw a straight line But i’ve followed you here somehow
5.
New City 03:01
New City Has an old city Feel alive now Feel inside now Feel the light out on the New City. New City. New City Has an old city Feel inside now Feel the light now You are nowhere near a New City.
6.
Jacob's Well 02:34
Here it can be so tempting to ascribe meaning to everything. A bird flying over the wall, A dead dog in the olive grove. He turned water into wine, But He could never be mine. I can stand where He stood, Look out on the same views. I can drink from His well, I can sit in my parent's pews. But I can't turn water into wine, can I still be someone's mine?
7.
Another taxi in Cairo, Something new to cry over: Her Another Foreigner taking his shoes off in the grass. Three years have passed. Well, I knew that I would be gone But I didn't know for how long. Well, I knew. Another taxi in Cairo, Something new to cry over: You
8.
Jon's Guitar 03:18
With the rain falling so hard It's hard to fall asleep. I think of following you three. If by this time next year You've all moved away, I don't think this special part of me Will stay. When you hop all your trains And you come up from below, I will drop every piece Just to watch you Go about my life For a couple of days. Just to watch you sleep in my bed. I want to believe You're visiting me.

about

The Songs of Seth Thomas collects 8 songs written between 2011 and 2018 in Portland, OR (Again, Jon's Guitar), Cairo, Egypt (Appear Amid, Taxi in Cairo) Nablus, Palestine (Sebastia, New City, Jacob's Well), and Karlsruhe, Germany (Rachel Says). The initial tracks were recorded by Seth Thomas and Jon David Russell in the summer of 2018 in Pittsburgh, PA, but were lovingly attended to by a variety of musicians over the next two years. Bringing to mind the sounds of 70s UK singer-songwriter artists such as Nick Drake, John Cale, and John Martyn, the lyrics explore themes of friendship, alienation, love, and faith.

"A splendid version of chamber-pop and indie-folk that’s got plenty of vulnerable moments while still being quite adventurous."
- Tom Haugen, The Daily Vault

"Haven’t heard a flat out lovelier record in 2021 than this one."
- Auxiliary Out
